I wonder if this is a bad sector or something, I tried a ‘verify disk' but didn't return anything so ‘repair' is disabled. Finally, try getting a new copy of the Football Manager application by reinstalling it. I thought this was messing with the time so I deleted it and restored the defaults by restoring Time Machine's LaunchDaemons in the system library from an earlier backup.

As I mentioned above, I had a particular Growl file (a patch subsequently fixed that issue) that was causing problems. Switched back to AFP and worked like a charm. It displayed which files it failed to copy as it went, also. On occasion, I can transfer 1 by 1.
