Alternately, if you have all you data backed up and the media available for a reinstall or recovery, I usually go right to that since every time I get a machine I'm totally stumped in that case, I've never heard of anyone not being able to access their own connection unless the machine is in a Domain and has those settings locked If not, I recommend you do so.
